Game Maker Retreat (9th - 13th June)
Inis Spraoi is back once again, this time with more waves. As we speak the Island is rising from the sea floor, dredging with it the memories and good vibes of previous years. The Meitheamh folk will arrive soon and form a cleanup and reconstruction crew to restore the livestock, paths, buildings, and walls to a passable state for our easy fun and playful relaxation.
So we ask you again to come chill and hang out on our island at the traditional end of the world. Switch off your computer and think and talk and play about games differently for a wee while. Stress-less activities, open sessions, board games, and a rad setting await for a cosy weekend of discovery/rediscovery. Also, tea, there should be lots of tea.

Safer Space Policy
Inis Spraoi is an all-inclusive event committed to nurturing a safer-space environment where people of all backgrounds and identities are respected, accepted, and cherished.
Harassment in any form, including but not limited to verbal comments, intimidation, and unwelcome contact, photography, or recording, is not tolerated. Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.
You are accountable for your own behaviour. If you are making someone uncomfortable it is your responsibility to accept - without question - that your actions are inappropriate, and to give that person suitable space.
If at any point you feel uncomfortable, need some space, or notice someone being harassed, please find one of our safer space volunteers - who will be made obvious during the event - and let us help.
WELLLLL, can I come??
This weekend is whatever you want to make it. It's very much participatory and pro-active and is run entirely by volunteers - that means YOU (yes, you) can help!
Submit any events, workshops, activities, or un-activities you'd like to run to the
❤ Activity Sheet ❤ early to give us a chance to see if we can help in any way (e.g. finding spaces or arranging room bookings) - of course, you're still free to impromptu organise whatever you like during the weekend!
If you don't feel like running something, we would be extremely grateful if you could take charge of or help out with one of the vital tasks over on the
❤ Task Sheet ❤.
The Facebook Page is a good place to gather interest in something you'd like to do and to coordinate looking after tasks. ♩♬♪♫
Cool! When is it happening?
The festival begins on Thursday night, June the 9th, and we leave the island on Monday morning, the 13th.
And where is this again??
Inishbofin is an island in the Atlantic Ocean on the west coast of Ireland. Transport to the island is by Ferry from the pier at Cleggan, Galway. ⚓
Ferries depart Cleggan for the island on Thursday 9th at 11.30, 14:00, and 18:45 and return to reality on Monday 13th at 08:15, 13:00, and 17:00.
The ferry costs €20 return for an adult (student and child rates are slightly cheaper).
Most people will take the 18:45 ferry to the island on Thursday the 9th. See here for more details: www.inishbofinislanddiscovery.com
_..--~~== There and Back Again ==~~--.._
By bus from Dublin or Dublin Airport - if there's enough interest, a bus will be arranged to pick people up from somewhere in the centre of Dublin - probably Central Bank - departing no later than 12:30, then passing by Dublin Airport at approximately 13:00, before heading onward to Cleggan.
Using public transport, figure out a way to Galway by bus (www.citylink.ie) or train (www.irishrail.ie) for the afternoon. Galway is nice, so if you have a few hours, enjoy them. Then grab the 16:00 bus to Cleggan. You will have time to buy the ferry ticket when you arrive.
By car from Dublin or Dublin Airport - It's a 4 hour drive, so leave at latest by 14:00 on Thursday.
By car from Shannon International Airport - It's just over a 2 1/2 hour drive, so leave at latest by 15:00 on Thursday.
Additionally there may be people providing car lifts from Dublin or Shannon airports, so please post on the facebook event page and get in touch if interested. Parking is about €3 per day at Cleggan.
For people flying home on Monday, most people - including those driving and the bus - will synchronise with the 13:00 ferry to Cleggan from the island. It's therefore best not to assume you will return to Dublin airport before 19:00.
I need a bed!
The event centres around the hostel and the Dolphin hotel. They're where we are staying, but space is limited! Note that we are coordinating all bookings, so you won't be able to book directly with either place.
✵ ✶ ✸ ✹ ✺ ✱ ✲ ✻ ✽ ❋ ❆ ❅ ❆ ❋ ✻ ✲ ✱
The hostel ☖ costs €15 - €25 a night per person, depending on the bed type (dorms or doubles). The hostel must be paid for by you in cash only on arrival.
✹ ✸ ✶ ✵ ✶ ✸ ✺ ✱ ✲ ✻ ✽ ❋ ❆ ❅ ❆ ❋ ✻
The hotel ☗ costs €36 - €41 a night per person, and rooms are shared between 2 or 3 people. The hotel must be paid for by you on arrival.

Your "ticket" to Inis Spraoi is simply getting a bed assigned. Due to the lack of facilities we cannot include people who happen to be staying elsewhere on the Island. Register for the facebook event page if you want to be notified when booking goes live, and to keep up to date with other event information.
Sounds good! But how much is this going to cost!?
That will depend on you, but you should try to factor in these things for 4 nights:
Flights (UK/Europe return): approximately €100 ✈
Bus (Dublin return): €45
Ferry (return): €20
Bed (4 nights): €40 (camp) - €164 (share hotel double)
Food (4 days): €80 - €160
Travel Insurance: approximately €45
We estimate the average person flying from Europe will spend approximately: €100 (flights) + €45 (bus) + €20 (ferry) + €60 (hostel dorm) + €120 (food) + €60 (other) = €405 to travel and attend.
Note, there are no ATMs so don't forget to bring cash. Some of the island's pubs and hotels do accept cards though.
Pro Tip! You can save on costs by bringing some food for breakfast and for snacking on during the day. Pancakes, cheese, and sandwich components are always very popular!
These pictures look really nice, are you trying to trick me??
All these pictures were taken at Inis Spraoi 2014 (by John O'Kane, Jane Collins, Elaine Reynolds, Sara Mena, and Basil Lim)!! ✿ ❂ ❀ ❁
Risks: Given that the event is held on an Island to which we need to take a ferry, there is a very low chance of cancellation due to bad weather. That is, if there is a horrendous, once-a-year storm!⚡ This is INCREDIBLY unlikely given we are going in June.
However, it may rain ☁☂. So bring warm clothes, good walking shoes, rain resistant outer layers, and an extra change of clothes. By the same token I am an optimist and I imagine it could also be quite warm so bring suncream ☀ !!
Anything else I should know!?
Mobile phones only work in certain spots around the Island, not including the hostel. WiFi is only available in the Beach Bar (free with registration) and the Island community centre (paid by the hour/day).
It's also super important to note that Inis Spraoi is a non-ticketed, nonprofit retreat coordinated by volunteers - most of whom are previous attendees. As an attendee you are responsible for your own safety, costs, and enjoyment during the weekend. We really recommend you take out any appropriate travel or medical insurance!
